School Lettuce Gardens Inspire Healthy Living and Eating

These students aren’t on a field trip! They are learning about growing healthy vegetables right in their own school yards. With the help of “Farmer Dave,” students at the Catholic community schools have planted lettuce gardens in containers and raised beds; grown and harvested salad greens; and learned how to prepare and enjoy the vegetables they harvest. What a great way to instill a love of healthy eating and foster an understanding of what it takes to grow the food we eat. Want to get involved? WEA is seeking both volunteer and financial support from individuals, garden clubs, and other community organizations to keep this project going in the coming year. If you’d like to be part of this valuable outside-the-classroom educational experience, let us know.
